DĀBĀN takes its name from a historic sword type documented in Saudi heritage, passed down through generations of our kings. This type of sword marked the beginning of collecting and inheriting precious objects, as it was considered among the finest of its kind. ZAZA Maizon draws on this historical connection to explore the sword as an heirloom carrying the memory of its keepers.

The Concept
Certain objects acquire significance through the lives they accompany. They bear witness to people and their actions, becoming tangible connections to those who came before. DĀBĀN explores this relationship between an object and its keeper, linking pride in what we inherit with responsibility for what we pass on. An extended horizontal silhouette gives the piece a composed architectural presence. Its rising curves introduce a continuous rhythm, recalling the coordinated movement of Ardah, where swords, poetry and the movement of the assembled rows express shared pride and belonging. The sword’s place within Saudi national symbolism informs the work’s understanding of strength as protection, sovereignty and resolve.

Conceived as a contemporary heirloom, DĀBĀN is made to be lived with, cherished and passed on, carrying something of what we value today into the lives of those who follow. Jewels rooted in our heritage, shaped to be collected and passed down.
